Mold Remediation Registration Information for Businesses and Professionals

This information and updates are primarily for businesses and individuals that provide mold remediation services in the State of Illinois.

The State of Illinois has enacted the Mold Remediation Registration Act (Public Act 103-0893). The General Assembly finds that there is a need to identify parties performing mold remediation in the State and they should be required to register and provide proof of financial responsibility. Section 20 of the Act requires the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) to adopt rules.

IDPH’s proposed rulemaking was published in the Illinois Register on October 17, 2025 (Publication 49 Ill Reg. 12832). It includes definitions, incorporated and referenced materials, and registration requirements.

The new requirements for mold remediation registration will not be in effect until the adoption of pending rulemaking. Until adoption of rules, mold remediation professionals are not required to register with IDPH. Registration materials are in development and will be accessible on this page after adoption.

*The Department is unable to speculate how long it may take until adoption of the pending rulemaking.

Where can I obtain more information?

Any and all questions about the pending rulemaking must be sent to DPH.Rules@illinois.gov as stated in the published Notice of Proposed Rules to avoid ex parte communication.

Homeowners, property managers, and those with health-related or technical questions about mold, including questions about where to find professionals who perform mold remediation or mold assessment, should continue emailing Program staff at dph.tox@illinois.gov.
