Infectious Respiratory Disease Surveillance

Going forward Illinois will be monitoring and reporting on community level transmission of respiratory illness caused by COVID-19, influenza and RSV together each season. These viruses are the main cause of severe respiratory disease during the respiratory season which typically starts each fall and peaks during the winter months. In addition, lab-based monitoring is completed on other respiratory viruses to monitor circulation patterns of respiratory diseases such as human metapneumovirus, parainfluenza, respiratory adenovirus, seasonal coronaviruses, enterovirus and rhinovirus.
