Sexually Transmitted Infections
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), or Sexually Transmitted Disease (STDs), are common – and there are dozens of different types of STIs. Some can even impact your ability to get pregnant when you are ready. The good news: many STIs can be prevented by using a condom when having sex.
Many STIs have no symptoms or might cause mild symptoms, so people with an STI might not know it. That’s why getting an STI test from a provider – and getting appropriate treatment if you have a positive diagnosis – is important if you are having sex. Appropriate treatment will decrease long-term or permanent complications and reduce STI exposure to sexual partners. STIs are common, so to maintain a healthy sexual life have conversations with partners about safer sex, STIs, and testing.
